The delightful experience of sharing pupusas—El Salvador's beloved national dish—has sparked an overwhelming wave of Salvadoran pride, capturing the hearts of many in the D.C. area. In a memorable moment on air, Moises Linares, a sports anchor from NBC4 and Telemundo44, introduced JP Finlay from NBC Sports Washington to these mouthwatering cornmeal cakes, generously filled with savory meats and cheeses.

In a clip that quickly went viral, viewers watched as Finlay took his first bite. “Tell me those are not amazing,” Linares urged. And with a satisfied smile, Finlay confirmed, “They’re amazing. Very, very good.” He reveled in the flavors, referring to the accompanying curtido—a tangy fermented cabbage salad—as a “festival of coleslaw and cheese and bread."

“This is for the Salvadoran community,” Linares proudly declared as they celebrated a dish that resonates deeply with local culture and heritage. Finlay didn't hesitate to rate his experience, giving his first pupusa a perfect score of diez.
